A colorful Carnival parade
The Carnival parade is the heart of the Cultural Carnival and an Uppsala tradition that you just can't miss! Hundreds of participants from a variety of cultural groups dance together in a crackling parade that trains through Uppsala and causes the streets to vibrate. Let yourself be moved by the joy, the rhythms, admire the side or why not dance by yourself?
The parade starts on Nedre Slottsgatan and passes through the central parts of Uppsala to return to the party site in the Engelska parken where the carnival continues all weekend! See the route for the Carnival parade 2020 to the right.
Kulturens is the study association for cultural practitioners and is politically and religiously independent. They work for everyone to be able to take part in and practice culture throughout the country and conduct public education activities in song, music, dance, theater / drama, filmmaking, image and form, etc.
As a partner, Kulturens Bildningsförbund is involved in making Kulturernas Karneval possible!
The party place in Engelska Parken is a flat area with wide gravel paths with small gravel. There is access to a disabled toilet. There are disabled parking spaces (4) adjacent to the area, which are located at the Campus English Park (special permit required). Transport service reaches the area via Thunbergsvägen's entrance to Campus Engelska Parken.

The inspiration for the Carnival of Cultures comes from the Carnival of Culture in Berlin and from the Carnival in Olinda / Recife in eastern Brazil. The idea was born to create a similar event for the cultural associations that exist in Uppsala city and county and which otherwise do not get the chance to show themselves to the general public. In Uppsala, the Carnival of Cultures was held for the first time on 16 May 2009. The carnival was much appreciated by both audiences and participants. With this, a foundation was laid for an annual folk festival in Uppsala. A carnival as a form of expression stands for pride in one's own expression, but also in creating something together and participating in a larger context.
The Carnival of Cultures is organized by the non-profit association KulturAlla.
The purpose of the Carnival of Cultures is to highlight and celebrate society's diverse range of cultures and its artistic expression. We welcome this rich variety of people and we want to create meetings, community, belonging and pride, joy and faith in the future. Uppsala should be a city where everyone should be able to feel welcome and belong.
We welcome everyone to participate with either their business, commitment or their visit.
About 700 participants in the program and over 100 volunteers make the carnival possible. We have a common dream of more heat, spectacle and community in Uppsala.
The event is an alcohol- and drug-free folk festival. Which means that we ask all our visitors to respect it and let the cultural impressions exert their very own intoxicating power!
